I agree with the first 2 sentences of your comments. Where I differ is in you said “neither do I think that such prohibition has much impact on the free exercise of religion. At least at this time I don’t see a concerted effort to interfere with religous expression.” Those who attack Christianity only seem to last for the First Amendment which says “….nor prohibit the free exercise thereof.” I suggest checking with the Catholic league for Religious and Civil Rights [http://catholicleague.org] and the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ)[http://aclj.org] for more examples of Christian Persecution in the United States.

I think the Idea that such displays amount to an “establishment of religion” is dubious. I think the impact of these lawsuits indicate the growth of seculer humanish. It also indicates a certain hostility toward religion in some circles. But neither do I think that such prohibition has much impact on the free exercise of religion. At least at this time I don’t see a concerted effort to interfere with religous expression.

Carol, A few examples I can think of include the Philadelphia 11, the Boy Scouts case before the U.S. Supreme Court, High School Girls Charged With ‘Hate Crimes’ Against Homosexuals. I would suggest going to CBNNews.com, ACLJ.org, and Traditional Values Coalition for more examples. there are a few more examples in the Big B File Christian Persecution in America. . .What Christian Persecution in America? dated July 16, 2007.

Would you please get in touch with me? I am searching for real stories of recent suffering for being a Christian. I am writing a script for my church in Alabama about Christians suffering around the world and I want to include a scene about something that has happened here in America.
This is a teen iniative to support the Voice of the Martyrs ministry.

This is an interesting discussion. I, like many of you, was very interested in finding the monetary equivalent of 30 pieces of silver in U.S. dollars. Thank you for the post. Also, in response to Mike’s comment: the shedding of Jesus’ blood did redeem us from our sins. Of course, it was in God’s plan for Jesus to be resurrected, but if He had not willingly laid his life down for us, then our chance for salvation would not be in existence. In Matthew 26:28, the scripture says:
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
It is through the blood of Jesus Christ that we are able to have a chance at eternal life with Him.
